Corns are areas of thickened skin that develop due to repeated pressure or friction.
They are the body’s natural protective response and are often caused by internal factors such as prominent bones or external pressures like footwear. In some cases, dry skin, ageing, or previous injury can contribute to their formation, and they may become painful or uncomfortable.
Hard skin (calluses) develops as a protective layer in response to ongoing pressure on the feet.
It is commonly linked to foot structure, footwear, ageing, or skin changes following injury. While mild hard skin is often not painful and can be managed with good footwear and regular moisturising, it can become excessive or uncomfortable for some people.
